Foundation Approves New Grants

Healthy Food Access Initiative
The Osteopathic Heritage Foundation of Nelsonville (OHFN) approved two new grants, totaling $107,500, designed to improve the accessibility and affordability of healthy foods for low-income populations in southeastern Ohio. The first, totaling $75,000, will increase the capacity of the Southeastern Ohio Food Bank & Kitchen (Food Bank) to access, store and distribute healthy foods throughout its 10 county service area. The expansion aligns with the Food Bank's larger strategy to fill the growing meal gap in southeastern Ohio with more nutritious, fresh and frozen foods.

Bounty on the Bricks
OHFN approved $32,500 to partner again with the Athens Foundation and Sisters Health Foundation to support Bounty on the Bricks, a community fund raiser to benefit the food pantry network in southeastern Ohio. Over the past three years, $225,000 has been raised and re-invested in the communities throughout southeastern Ohio. Of the total investments, counties with the highest food insecurity rates, Athens, Jackson and Meigs, received nearly $100,000 to address food insecurity. Mark your calendar for the 2016 Bounty on the Bricks to be held August 13, 2016 in Athens, Ohio. View the Save the Date.
